Obesity is a serious health issue that increasingly affects major segments of the US population—in fact, more than two-thirds of US adults are considered overweight or obese. What’s more, globally, the World Health Organization ranks obesity as the fifth leading risk factor for death. And the numbers keep rising. Fast, processed foods and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle certainly contribute to this epidemic, but there is more to the story than that—as those who watch what they eat, get regular exercise, and still struggle with their weight will attest.
