Hypogonadism, Hormones, and Health

Oftentimes, teenagers get the most attention for their notoriously raging, out of control hormones. Many of the things that teens go through due to their hormones changing, from increased body hair to aggressive and moody behavior, are viewed as just “normal parts of growing up.” However, the flip side of the equation—adults reaching menopause or andropause—is rarely discussed as much. Many adults view changing hormone levels and their subsequent symptoms as just an inevitable part of aging, yet these changes can be quite dramatic and have a significant impact on daily living and overall health. Hypogonadism, a condition in which the body is deficient in testosterone, is one example of hormonal imbalance that can occur later in life (although it can occur at any stage of life), and can afflict both men and occasionally women.
