You know those days where you feel like you just can’t focus? You feel distracted, uncertain, grumpy and irritable—just plain off? This can often be due to lack of sleep—either from not getting enough or from getting poor quality sleep. We’ve all gone through periods where we don’t sleep very well, either from stress or from some kind of disruption to our schedules. When we don’t get good sleep, our bodies don’t function as well as they should because we’re not giving our bodies the time they need to rest and repair. Getting enough sleep—and getting good quality sleep—affects our mood, our day, and our long-term health. Sleep deprivation can contribute to or exacerbate other health problems, and can also diminish our immune system. To stay healthy, we need sleep. Period.
