It’s no secret that when we are sleep deprived, we feel groggy, lethargic, and argumentative. However, when we are lacking sleep we also indulge in behaviors that may not be the best for us nutritionally. After a long, hard day and night, it’s easy to reach for a salty snack, or even a sugary snack to give us that last boost of energy. Research now suggests that when the human body is running on empty, the brain signals us to snatch up those nutrient less foods instead of opting for a healthier alternative. By doing this, we receive an immediate feeling of pleasure and satisfaction, enabling all negative behaviors.
